A Little History
Rock 4 A Reason was founded in 2018 by our group of close friends who get together from time to time to enjoy playing live music at personal gatherings. During this time, an understanding soon developed that we also shared another, more serious common thread... that cancer, in one form or another, has deeply touched each of our lives. Some have lost friends, co-workers or family members while others in the group have personally fought and survived.
As such, our group decided to leverage our love for music with a desire to actively fight this terrible disease that affects 1 in 2 people in British Columbia. Our approach... to hold a rock concert and raise money to help not only those closest to us, but to help as many people possible who are currently dealing with cancer.
Building off the incredible success of our inaugural event, the group formally incorporated as the Rock 4 A Reason Charitable Society in March 2019. Our mandate is to raise money through annual entertainment events that will be used to support the BC Cancer Foundation and other important community endeavors.
Chris Trigg Bursary Award
The Mighty Hughs performed at our inaugural event and these favorite local musicians returned for our 2019 event and dedicated their performance to their late founder and frontman Chris Trigg, who sadly lost his battle with cancer shortly after their performance at our 2018 event.
In honor of Chris and his contributions to the music industry, Rock 4 A Reason created a bursary in his name to benefit a music student of the Westshore Music Academy.
2019 Award Winner
We were pleased to award Trinity Hathaway, a student of the Westshore Music Academy, with a cheque for $1,000.00 as our inaugural recipient of the Chris Trigg Bursary Award.
Rotary Club of Westshore
The Rotary Club of West Shore partnered with Rock 4 A Reason in the 2019 season to serve up a delicious menu for our hungry event guests and volunteers.
Proceeds from the sale of the food went to benefit the Rotary fundraiser - the Sarah Beckett Memorial Playground. Sarah Beckett, a West Shore RCMP officer, was killed by an impaired driver in 2016 while on duty.
In addition to their food fundraiser at our event, Rock 4 A Reason also purchased an engraved fundraiser brick to be place in the playground.
